Using the wind to create electricity has been around for a long time. Wind power or wind energy describes the process by which the wind is used to generate mechanical power or electricity. When the wind turns the blades of a windmill, it spins the turbine inside the generator to produce electricity by converting the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical power. The principle is just like a coal power plant.
The electricity generated from a windmill is insignificant which only enough to power simple machineries. To generate sufficient energy to power a city, SWT develops wind farms with dozens of wind turbines to cater to large population.
Wind farms consist of many individual wind turbines which are connected to the electric power transmission network. Onshore wind is an inexpensive source of electricity, competitive with or in many places cheaper than coal or gas plants. Offshore wind is steadier and stronger than on land, and offshore farms have less visual impact.
